(SPRINGFIELD, Ill.- Oct. 1)—The McKendree College men’s soccer team recorded a key victory in American Midwest Conference play with a 3-1 win over the University of Illinois-Springfield. The win propels the Bearcats into second-place in the conference with a 2-0-1 record.
McKendree fell behind early and trailed 1-0 at halftime before mounting a come-from-behind win. The Bearcats tied the game when
Ian Nichols (Granite City, Illinois/Granite City) (Granite City, Ill./Granite City) scored on a pass from teammate
Nicolas Mosca (Buenos Aires, Argentina/San Luis Gonzaga).
The Bearcats grabbed the lead when Mosca netted his second goal of the season after being set up by
Gareth Batchelor (Southampton, Hampshire/Tauntons). McKendree added an insurance goal when
Ryan Miller (Sycamore, Illinois/Sycamore) (Sycamore, Ill./Sycamore) scored on a pass from Batchelor.

Tim Steeg (St. Louis, Missouri/Chaminade) (St. Louis, Mo./Chaminade) continued his outstanding play in net, making eight saves while picking up the win. McKendree is now 6-3-2 overall and will be in action again October 4 when they travel to Columbia College. Columbia is the defending AMC champions and are currently in first-place with a 2-0-2 record in conference play this season. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
